Minimum Qualifications for Data Scientist Jobs in Orapa Botswana 2023
- Bachelors Degree: Software/Data Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Statistics and Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent.
- Experience with programming software to gain insight and prediction from large data sets.
- Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, cognitive solutions, and IoT platforms including digital twins within the mining industry Classification: Internal Page 4 of 5.
- Experience in collaborating closely with data visualisation specialists, data analysts, and data engineers.
- Experience in mining industry with good understanding of the total mine value chain is advantageous.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders regarding the need for new advanced analytics use cases to support processes across different business functions, understand their requirements, and take appropriate action to deliver requisite solutions.
- Engage relevant stakeholders on business problem definition, solution design, and accuracy and usability of data products.
- Identify AI business opportunities
- Scope and manage data science projects and the corresponding key performance indicators (KPI’s) for success
- Identify, processes, cleanses, and validates the datasets that are to be used for different advanced analytics use cases.
- Establish links across existing data sources and find new, interesting mash-ups.
- Leverage design thinking, client input, and a “data science mindset” to identify, prioritize, and assess opportunities to leverage data science to deliver value to internal customers.
- Design and create in collaboration with the IM function, data pipelines for more efficient and repeatable data science projects.
- Utilise operational experience, and analytical insight to align mining operations with strategic intent through analytic tools, and advanced analytic algorithms.
- Generate hypotheses about the underlying mechanics of the business process
- Test hypotheses using various quantitative methods.
- Apply statistical analysis and visualization techniques to various data, such as hierarchical clustering, confidence intervals, regression analysis, ANOVA, Bayesian analysis.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to understand the data distribution, identify patterns, and gain insights into the data. Use statistical techniques to identify correlations and relationships between variables
- Identify data quality issues and anomalies and work with the data management team to address these issues
- Create informative visualizations that intuitively display large amounts of data and/or complex relationships.
- Develop machine learning models and algorithms to apply to relevant datasets.
- Provide direction, develop and maintain machine learning paths, and audit cognitive automation decision paths.
- Ensure the integrity of algorithms through regular audits, and the application of ethical approaches.
- Work with cross departmental team to define metrics, guidelines, and strategies for effective use of algorithms and data.
- Apply machine learning techniques clustering algorithms, neural networks, support vector machines and reinforcement learning
- Collaborate with Machine Learning Operation (MLOps) team, stakeholders, and customers to ensure models are meeting their needs and effectively communicating findings, insights, and recommendations to non-technical audiences
- Maintain and monitor models to ensure they continue to perform well over time, including updating models as needed, monitoring performance metrics, and detecting and addressing issues or anomalies
- Implement, in collaboration with IM and business functions, champion/challenger test (A/B tests) on production systems
- Manage the development of data management policies and procedures.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on big data infrastructure, database technologies, analytics tools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
- Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data science services across the organization
- Leverage design thinking, and a “data science mindset” to identify, prioritize, and assess opportunities to leverage data science to deliver value to our clients
- Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis
- Employ sound judgment in determining how innovations will be deployed to produce ROI.
- Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of data science-based projects
- Develop, direct, coach, mentor, and reinforce team members in line with the mission, vision, values, goals, and performance standards for data science initiatives.
- Maintain a highly collaborative team environment.
- Lead the training of other business and IT staff on basic data science principles and techniques
- Network with internal and external partners
- Promote collaboration with other data science teams within the organization, and encourage the reuse of artifacts
- Work with product managers, Data Engineers, IM and Data Analytics team members to translate prototypes into production
